Mugume J. Peter is a lecturer at the Center for Conflict Management (CCM) and the School of Social, Political and Administrative Sciences (SSPAS) at the College of Arts and Social Sciences (CASS) of the University of Rwanda (UR). Peter Mugume is the coordinator of the postgraduate programs at the CCM. He is also the Coordinator of the Social and Military Sciences program also at the University of Rwanda. Dr. Mugume has undertaken teaching, research at a high institutional level and community service in peace, conflict management and development; enhancing the process of regional integration; and contributing to regional and international peace, stability and cooperation.
Peter is in addition, the Team leader of the Peace, Conflict and Development subprogram of the University of Rwanda and Sweden’s Cooperation for Research, Higher Education and Institutional Advancement.
Mugume’s interest in promotion of peace led him to pursue his research on conflict management. This was done with an aim to contribute to promotion of peace and development not only for Rwanda but also in other parts of Africa and the world.
Dr. Peter Mugume has been involved in differentresearchactivities in Rwanda. Mugumealongwithothersconducted a research on Rwanda governanceBarometercommissioned by the then Rwanda Governance Council. Mugume has been involved in the research on Itorero in Post-Genocide Rwanda: Ambition, Expectation, Perception and Effects. Mugume has alsoconducted a baselinestudy on the innovations and the role of highereducation institutions in Rwanda particularly the University of Rwanda.
Peters research interests are in areas of peace and conflict, security, governance and development related issues in Africa.
